Shepherd's Purse (Capsella Bursa-Pastoris)
The bleeding stopper — heavy periods, post-partum bleeding, urinary bleeding, and wound haemostasis from one of the most effective haemostatic herbs in Western herbalism.
Shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) takes its name from the distinctive heart-shaped seed pouches that resemble a shepherd’s bag — and has been used as a primary haemostatic herb in European folk medicine for centuries. Rich in tyramine, flavonoids, and tannins, it contracts blood vessels and uterine muscle, reducing or stopping abnormal bleeding with remarkable effectiveness. Historically applied to wounds on battlefields and used by midwives for postpartum haemorrhage, shepherd’s purse remains one of the most clinically relevant haemostatic herbs available.
