Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium)
The wound warrior — bleeding, fever, colds, and menstrual regulation from one of the oldest and most versatile medicinal plants in human history.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is named after the Greek hero Achilles, who according to legend used it to staunch the wounds of his soldiers at Troy — and archaeological evidence confirms humans have used this herb medicinally for at least 60,000 years. Rich in achilleine, azulene, tannins, and flavonoids, yarrow is simultaneously haemostatic (stops bleeding), diaphoretic (breaks fevers through sweating), anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antispasmodic. One of the most complete medicinal herbs in the European flora — the herbalist’s Swiss Army knife.
Key Benefits
Wound healing & haemostasis · Fever management · Heavy menstrual bleeding · Cold & flu · Anti-inflammatory · Digestive tonic
How to Use
Steep 1–2 tsp dried yarrow in 250ml hot water for 5–10 mins, covered. Drink 2–3 cups daily. Aromatic, slightly bitter, pleasantly herby flavour. For fever: drink hot and stay warm to promote sweating. For wounds: apply a cooled strong infusion directly as a compress. Pairs well with elderflower and peppermint for the classic fever-breaking blend.
