Senna Pods (Cassia Officinalis)
The gentler laxative — milder, slower-acting constipation relief from the whole pods of the Cassia plant, preferred for sensitive digestive systems.
Senna pods (Cassia officinalis / Senna alexandrina) contain the same active sennosides as the leaf but in lower concentrations, resulting in a gentler, slower laxative action with less griping — making them the preferred form for those with sensitive digestion or who find senna leaf too strong. The pods have been used in Arab and Islamic medicine since the 9th century, prescribed by Ibn Sina (Avicenna) as the safest purgative available. Whole pod preparations remain a traditional and gentle first-choice constipation remedy across the Middle East and North Africa.
